Apart from the gambling and machine arcades, there are other attractions such as the Liberace Museum full of glittery pianos, custom cars and his outrageous costumes and jewellery, Star Trek where you get beamed aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise at warp speed, wet ‘n' wild and so on the list is endless! This glittering and surprisingly inexpensive playground, offers casinos by the acre. The "Strip" is an avenue of blatant decadence, a mixture of erupting volcanoes, duelling buccaneers and white tigers enticing you into the dazzling live entertainment shows. Downtown, the spectacular Fremont Street Experience with its sparkling lights awaits spectators with hourly sound and light shows and an amazing array of entertainment and pyrotechnic displays. Once a lonely highway outpost, the town is now a major resort area offering golf, designer outlet malls, casinos and the town boast several amusement rides including The Desperado one of the tallest roller coasters in the world. A short drive away are the towns of Pahrump and Henderson not far from a shopper's paradise where you'll find fashion outlets with up to 75% discounts on designer clothes. A short drive north of Las Vegas is Mount Charleston, at nearly 12,000 feet, it has been described as "a garden island within a sea of desert." A wonderful breezy place, in the summer visitors can stay cool without air conditioning and in the winter months it's the only place in Southern Nevada for skiing and other engaging in snow sports. There are also picnic areas and hiking trails.<br><br>Reno, Nevada's original gambling capital still offers the visitor plenty of attractions. Virginia City still has wonderful wooden sidewalks where you can stroll and see false front saloons, also you'll find excellent restaurants and buffet bars. Visitors can enjoy a ride on the reconstructed Virginia & Truckee Railroad. Nearby is the pretty village of Genoa, where Mormon traders first settled in the 1850s and includes the shaded Mormon Station State Park, site of a small museum and welcoming hot springs and spa. Other charming towns providing a good base for sightseeing are: Verdi, Carson City, Gardnerville, Washoe Valley and Wellington. Visitors will enjoy an unlimited variety of entertainment, sightseeing, special events, shopping, dining, among many other activities as well as marvellous bed and breakfast in Nevada State.<br><br>For a strikingly contrasting destination, head for the western border of Nevada for the tranquillity of Lake Tahoe, this pristine alpine lake is one of the wonders of the west! The clear, clean waters are wonderful for swimming during the summer or enjoy a hike in the surrounding forests and mountains. You'll find everything from fine restaurants to buffets and game arcades and at night, casinos grace the Nevada side of the border.<br>This picturesque lake is one of the clearest and deepest lakes in the world. Outdoor recreation is a year-round experience and where in the winter you can ski, snowboard, or snowmobile. <br><br>During the summer months, golf, boating, water-skiing, hiking, fishing and mountain biking are popular at the lake. Take the Tahoe Rim Trail for a truly exceptional hiking experience providing the most scenic panoramic views of the lake. You can pick up the route from the town of Stateline. For golf enthusiasts, there are numerous golf courses throughout the Reno-Tahoe Territory, from challenging high desert and Scottish links courses to scenic mountain resorts and there is a course available for every ability and interest.<br><br>Pioneer Country is where you'll find The Toiyabe Range and at over 10,000 feet, it is a beautiful alpine island in the spectacular Basin with some unique parks. North Las Vegas is near the interesting Cathedral Gorge State Park, where erosion has sculpted soft clay into a landscape of magnificent phantasmic spires and grottoes. Interestingly, the infamous Nevada top-secret US Air Force Base known as Area 51, that never officially existed - is still shrouded in UFO mystery, illusion and conspiracy stories. On 19th August 1955, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed an executive order restricting airspace over Area 51 Nevada. Area 51 is now a popular symbol for all sorts of alleged U.S. Government UFO cover-ups and was one of the most secretive places on Earth. <br><br>Cowboy country, a magnet for Western American folk art with the annual Cowboy Poetry Gathering, the nation's oldest cowboy poetry festival held in the bustling city of Elko, where you'll also find the National Basque Festival, historic sites and art exhibitions. Additionally it is the gateway to the Ruby Mountains and the Jarbidge Wilderness offering a wealth of outdoor attractions for the keen sportsman including fly, bait and lure fishing and exceptional big game and bird hunting opportunities. Paradise Valley is near the site where archaeologists excavated the fossilized remains of a seagoing dinosaur called an Icthyosaur. Also within the area is the Icthyosaur State Park containing a preserved fully furnished home and office ghost town with an old tumbledown mill.<br><br>Why not stop off at Ely or Fallon in Pony Express territory, a land of untouched natural beauty and charming old mining towns that still look much as they did more than a century ago. Travel to the Great Basin National Park, home of ancient bristle cone pines, these gnarled giants can live to be 4,000 years old! The park provides hiking trails along alpine lakes and majestic mountaintops, including the imposing 13,063-foot Wheeler Peak, the second highest point in Nevada. Visit the incredible Lehman Caves providing fantastic displays of stalactites and stalagmites that developed over hundreds of thousands of years ago.
