There are lots of options available for your New Orleans experience, but this city and area has more to offer than just Bourbon Street and the French Quarter.
Located just across the canal in the Holy Cross neighborhood are two amazing Steamboat Houses built in 1905 and 1913 by Steamboat Captain Paul Doullut. The homes are not open to the public, but still worth visiting if you enjoy unique architecture. Located just 18 miles Southeast of downtown New Orleans, St. Bernard Parish is a delightful extension. The San Bernardo Scenic Byway on Louisiana's Hwy. 46 traverses the area, which is rich in history and cultural diversity. Located downriver from the guest house is the Chalmette Battlefield, Chalmette National Cemetery, and Malus-Beauregard House; all part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Louisiana's fabled Great Mississippi River Road consists of a corridor approximately 70 miles in length located on each side of the river between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The area includes the river, levees, and adjacent lands and cultural resources. |
